Our Church Covenant

From time to time, we hear people ask for a "statement of faith" or other written expression of the faith beliefs of WBC. The best way to discover that is to spend time with the Family in Christ that makes up the congregation! The next best way to get a sense of the Spirit alive in our midst may be to read the Church Covenant, adopted as a statement of who we are and what we believe we should be about as God's people in this place and time. Another document we recommend is the "Baptist Faith and Message," 1963 edition. Copies are available upon request.

WILTON BAPTIST CHURCH COVENANT
We are the church, the Body of Christ. We are here to proclaim lovingly, in word and in deed, the good news of God's salvation. God is making of us a fellowship which will embody and express the very Spirit of God's Son, Jesus, the Christ, our Savior, Lord and Brother.

As members of such a fellowship, with God's help, each of us intends to live under these commitments:

I will study the Bible, meditate and pray so that I will more fully experience the presence of God.

I will gather regularly with this church to worship God in reverent joy. If I move from this area, I will unite with another church in which I can carry forward the principles of God's Word and the spirit of this covenant.

I will seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit In my life, and be sensitive to the Spirit's leadership, recognizing that it may be revealed to me directly or through persons, history, nature, the arts, current events or other sources.

I will be responsible to God through the creative use of all my income and possessions.

Recognizing the teachings of Scripture, I will give systematically and sacrificially to the financial support of the ministries of our church.

I will practice self-control and moderation in all matters affecting my body, recognizing that the human body is a delight to God, a dwelling place of the Holy Spirit and a means to give honor to Christ.

I will educate my family in God's Word and instruct them in God's ways. I will strive by example and personal effort to lead those under my care to a commitment to Jesus Christ and encourage them in Christian growth.

I will seek to evoke, affirm and celebrate the gifts God has given to others, and I will seek to discover and affirm the gifts God has given me and use them in God's service.

I will offer to know and love my brothers and sisters In Christ, as I am willing to be known and loved by them. In all I do, I will attempt to nurture an open, loving and unified spirit within the fellowship.

With God's help and the help of my Christian brothers and sisters, I commit myself to this covenant.
